As a compulsive traveller who originally moved out to beautiful British Columbia almost two years ago (*gasp!!), you can imagine how much my friends didn’t believe me when I told them that I had still never made it out to Vancouver Island. Once upon a time (aka, before I started my blog), I visited a number of Caribbean Island and fell in love with the notion of “island time” (aka, no one wants to know what time it is, why do you even own a watch?) Needless to say, Vancouver Island has always been high on my BC bucket list.
As much as I wanted to spend weeks exploring the whole island and the nearby Sunshine Coast (**hint, hint, foreshadowing for upcoming posts), my friends and I could only coordinate a few days off together, so our trip was limited to Victoria – not like I was complaining, I managed to book us the Fairmont Empress ;)
This meant a harbour view room, gourmet breakfast and world class high tea
(only to be dampened by the fact that the hotel’s archives – yes, the hotel is so old, it has its own archives – lead me to discover that the original prices the hotel offered for meals and rooms have all increased by at least 6900%..!
PS. I was originally planning on apologising profusely for my hiatus, but then I reminded myself that travvelsized is a travel blog and that since I’d spent several months working a desk job and not travelling (yuck!), I didn’t have much I missed posting – until now ;)
